From a Victorian coaching inn to Ashford's most beloved pub — discover the story behind The Copper Kettle.
The Copper Kettle first opened its doors in 1847, when Ashford was a bustling market town at the crossroads of Kent. Originally a coaching inn serving weary travellers on the London to Dover route, the pub earned its name from the gleaming copper kettle that hung above the bar — a symbol of warmth and welcome that endures to this day.
Through two world wars, the rise and fall of the railway, and decades of change, The Copper Kettle remained a constant — a place where the community gathered, stories were shared, and pints were pulled with pride.
Today, we've lovingly restored the original Victorian features while adding modern comforts, creating a space that honours the past while embracing the present.

Quality — We source ingredients from within 30 miles wherever possible. Our beef comes from a farm in Canterbury, our vegetables from a market garden in Tenterden, and our ales from breweries across Kent.
Community — We're more than a pub — we're a gathering place. We support local charities, host community events, and sponsor Ashford's amateur football team.
Tradition — We believe in doing things properly. Real ale pulled by hand, roasts cooked to perfection, and service with a genuine smile.
Sustainability — Zero food waste policy, compostable packaging, and energy-efficient systems throughout the building.
Our passionate team works tirelessly to make every visit memorable.
